Pippy Named Chairman of Senate Urban
Affairs and Housing Committee
Vice Chair of Law and Justice, will also sit on Appropriations,
Transportation, Game and Fisheries, Banking and Insurance committees.
Harrisburg – State
Sen. John Pippy (R-37) has been appointed chairman of the Senate Urban
Affairs and Housing Committee, which considers issues important to the
Pittsburgh region and municipalities across Pennsylvania.
In the 2007-08
legislative session, the senator will also continue to serve as vice
chairman of the Senate Law and Justice Committee, and sit on the
influential Senate Appropriations Committee. He has also been appointed
by Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati to serve on the
Transportation, Game and Fisheries, and Banking and Insurance
committees.
"I am looking
forward to serving as chairman of the Senate Urban Affairs and Housing
Committee for the next two years," said Pippy. "In an era of regional
economies and commuting workforces, there really isn't such a thing as
an 'urban issue.' The issues in urban and suburban communities are
intertwined like never before. The Urban Affairs and Housing Committee
will work to ensure that policies and legislation reflect the reality
that strong urban communities can benefit entire regions."
Elected to the
Senate in 2003, Senator Pippy has previously served as chairman of the
Senate Game and Fisheries Committee. In 2007, he continues to pursue an
agenda of improving economic development, expanding the workforce,
reforming state government, providing property tax relief and ensuring
the strength of Pennsylvania's public infrastructure.
"It is the start of
a new year, and a new legislative session. It's an opportunity to take a
fresh approach to old problems, and to apply some old-fashioned common
sense to new challenges," said Pippy. "We have a lot of work ahead of
us, and the committee process helps improve promising bills, and weed
out bad ones. I intend to use these committee assignments to make sure
that bills signed into law benefit the citizens of the 37th
Senatorial District."
