Senate Government Management & Cost Study Commission Issues Final Report

Recently, the Senate Government Management and Cost Study Commission (Commission) released its final report to the Senate.  The 29-page document made suggestions that could result in nearly $458,000,000 in savings to the taxpayers in the Commonwealth over a 3-year period.

The Commission was created by Senate Resolution 161  to study potential cost-saving measures throughout state government and consisted of 10 leaders from both the public and private sectors.  It held 7 public hearings over a 6 month period and heard from at least 30 participants with knowledge and experience in numerous areas of business and state government.  I am pleased that the Commission considered my bill, Senate Bill 201, which would reduce the size of the General Assembly during its deliberations.  The Commission also considered hundreds of emailed suggestions from concerned residents.  A full copy of the report can be found by clicking on the following link: http://senatorargall.com/commission/commission-final-report.pdf

I applaud the Commission for its hard work in investigating these recommendations for saving the citizens of the Commonwealth more of their hard-earned money.  Its work will be a useful tool as we continue to seek to make our state government more accountable.  Please do not hesitate to contact me on this or any other state-related matter.

Sincerely,
John Pippy
