Local Communities Receive Recycling Grants

10 municipalities rewarded for "performance" during 2003

Ten municipalities in the 37th Senatorial District will receive recycling grants from the state Department of Environmental Protection, according to state Senator John Pippy.

The grant recipients include:

  • Jefferson Hills Borough -- $13,582
  • Kilbuck Township -- $69
  • North Fayette Township -- $3,045
  • Ohio Township -- $7,468
  • Peters Township (Washington County) -- $15,980
  • Pleasant Hills Borough -- $1,831
  • Sewickley Hills Borough -- $146
  • South Fayette Township -- $7,759
  • Upper St. Clair Township -- $18,832
  • Whitehall Borough -- $10,649

The grants are based on overall recycling rates for those communities during 2003, Senator Pippy said.

"These grant rewards communities for their efforts and shows that recycling does pay off, both in preserving our environment and in funds from the state," Senator Pippy said. "These grants are a tribute to the recycling efforts of local residents and businesses."
