For Immediate Release Senator Pippy announces a new opportunity to help military familiesIn recognition of the service and sacrifice made by members of the military and their families, a PA Personal Income Tax (PIT) check-off was established in House Bill 176 to provide assistance to military families. This check-off (which will appear on 2005 state personal income tax forms next year) will give Pennsylvanians an opportunity to show their appreciation to the men and women in uniform by allowing taxpayers to contribute a portion of their PIT refund to the Military Family Relief Assistance Fund. Money from the fund will be distributed to Pennsylvania resident servicemen and servicewoman or their families who have suffered a loss of income or a death or illness of a family member that results in a demonstrable financial need, such as food, clothing, or required medical care. The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs will administer this program and is required to annually report to the General Assembly the amount received from the check-off and how the funds were utilized. If you are interested in receiving additional information on this program, please feel free to contact one of my offices. Matt Campion 412.571.3822
