Governor Signs Pippy Bill Designating "James E. Russo Highway"

Portion of Route 65 around Leetsdale would honor late District Magistrate.

Harrisburg – Legislation spearheaded by state Sen. John Pippy (R-37) and Rep. Mark Mustio (R-44) to rename a portion of Route 65 in honor of the late District Magistrate John Russo has been signed into law by the governor.

Act 56 designates a portion of Route 65 around Leetsdale the "James E. Russo Highway." Judge Russo passed away in April 2004 after serving as District Magistrate for 29 years.  The legislation will take effect in 60 days.

"I am grateful to my legislative colleagues for moving this through the General Assembly so quickly and to the governor for signing it into law. Judge Russo spent nearly three decades administering justice in the community and is entirely deserving of this honor," said Pippy.

In addition to serving the Leetsdale area, Judge Russo was the first district justice appointed to serve on the former Judicial Conduct Board, predecessor to the Court of Judicial Discipline of Pennsylvania.

"Judge Russo was a community role model and this action will help honor his legacy for future generations," said Mustio.
