Harrisburg – The deadline to apply for the state Property Tax and Rent Rebate Program has been extended to Dec. 31, 2009, Sen. John Pippy (R-37) said earlier this week. The Property Tax and Rent Rebate program benefits eligible Pennsylvanians age 65 and older, widows and widowers age 50 and older, and people with disabilities age 18 and older. The rebate applies to property taxes or rent paid in 2008. The program is funded by state Lottery proceeds. Applications can be obtained by calling Senator Pippy's district offices: 412-262-2260 (Moon Township), 412-571-3822 (Mt. Lebanon Township), 724-942-7210 (Peters Township) or 412-749-4722 (Sewickley). Applications can also be obtained online at www.papropertytaxrelief.com under "Property Tax/Rent Rebate Forms" on the left. Pippy noted that applicants can visit the website to obtain information on their claim status, rebate amount and the date a rebate is expected to be mailed or direct-deposited. To track a claim, go to the bottom of the page and click on "Where's My Property Tax/Rent Rebate?" "For many seniors, property taxes or rent are the biggest expense they face," said Pippy. "The Property Tax and Rent Rebate program offers substantial assistance. I urge anyone who thinks they may be eligible to apply, and pass along the information to others who may benefit."
