Pippy Resolution Recognizes May as Youth Traffic Safety Month in PA

Harrisburg – The state Senate has adopted a resolution sponsored by Sen. John Pippy (R-37) recognizing May as National Youth Traffic Safety Month.

"The number one cause of death for youth is auto crashes," said Pippy. "Teens across the country are working to help change this statistic, and with the help of local communities, they can make a difference."

National Youth Traffic Safety Month is a campaign led by National Organizations for Youth Safety, a nonprofit coalition of national youth-led and youth-serving organizations that focus on safety and health.

Partnering in their neighborhoods with community leaders, medical professionals, educators, law enforcement and legislative leaders, young Americans are developing and implementing projects and programs to raise their voices for safe teen driving. Community support and the work of the youth involved in these activities are important components in taking steps to prevent further tragedies related to youth traffic crashes, the senator said.

"May is an opportune time to increase awareness of youth traffic safety, as the prom season, graduations and summer vacation months are a time of particular concern," said Pippy. "Each person, including parents, educators, law enforcement, elected leaders, community leaders and youth themselves must play a part in educating teens and their families about traffic safety."
